Nap War Review

This is a mini review, walkthrough guide, or my cent for Fog Of War (Nap War), a free strategy game out there.  It is somewhat similar to Napoleon: Total War

I enter my account (after a fairly lengthy load time) and what do I see? I see an interestingly retro page setup. I see wood based backgrounds, rough edges and even nails on buttons. To some this will be of little importance. But for me this gives me a connection to the time period in question, the Napoleonic wars (1803-1815).

But don’t be fooled, this is absolutely no reflection on the games quality! After joining the game you find yourself being directed by a ‘guide’. I am still shocked by this feature. It is the simplest and clearest introduction I’ve ever encountered (also providing a ‘skip guide’ option to prevent any pros from becoming frustrated). Not only does it tell u precisely what needs to be done, it also uses a clear red arrow in order to catch the user’s attention and focus them on what needs doing. This will get you through the very first experiences of some features. This isn’t enough to teach you this game? How about a carefully constructed and extensive collection of newbie tasks to give you exactly what you need to thrive at this game?

Now for the game itself…. it may look good and teach you most of what you need to know but what do you get when playing properly? You get a very similar interface to many online games of this type. Your given resources to collect, buildings to make, alliance warfare, even quests and a chat box. But something caught my eye, not only are you playing a game, your also using this as a social interaction unlike most games I have witnessed. Want to find your friend fast? Simple! Your given an easy access sliding contacts list to ensure you stay in touch! This is as much a social network as it is a game! With active chats and easy methods of meeting new people. So if you’re here to meet people with similar interests…. this is a site for you!

Like most other browser games of this type you need a combination of buildings and research in order to unlock the very best unit types, giving people some work to do before they can post massive armies to strike down ones opposition and even friends… the unit types themselves are all recognized units from the Napoleonic period itself, units include:

* Peasants-mostly used for city maintenance these units will only fight in the most dire of situations, use military conscription to make these units fight alongside your armies.

* Infantry- the basic unit type, easily made, easily lost! These basic combatants won’t hold out against the very best unit types.

* Scout- fancy seeing what your opposition or friends have? Use spies to see what they’re hiding from you!

* Billman- no this isn’t a tax collector! ;) . Long spears give this unit a great way of holding back your opposition in a wall of spearheads… but be warned, if this wall is breached you will not bode well against close combat units.

* Grenadier- these units are the power behind the infantry charge, ploughing through the opposition and always at the center of the battle.

* Musketeer- these units are ‘death bringers’ firing into the opposition lines… not enough time to reload? Don’t you worry! They also have bayonet making then adaptable and useful units to possess.

* Hussar- lighting fast but lightly armored, these units will hit fast, so useful for attacking small numbers fast, for large scale warfare however, others preferred….

* Dragoon- heavily armored and ready to fight is the best way to describe these units, they can be thrown into any battle and will mow down any unlucky opposition.

* Convoy- want to move large amounts of resources? If so this is your best unit choice, with high capacities being the focus here other aspects are poor.

* Howitzer- wanna crumble your enemies frontline, smash em with one of these, this small barreled artillery gun will crumble your enemies lines!

* Siege engine- these things just won’t die! Near indestructible, these machines of war will turn enemy defenses into paste!

* Cannon- this is the power behind any napwar army, a combination of its range and destruction make it a formidable enemy and as long as its allies line holds, these cannons will continue to wipe out massive numbers of opposition.

Battle- ever wanted to dictate how your guys fight rather than some random formula? Now you can with the ‘Operable battle system’. Allowing you to might on your way and gives this game yet another exciting dimension!
