Sins of a Solar Empire Review

Sins of a Solar Empire is a title that has received good reviews and ratings but it is not very well known across the globe.

Sins Of A Solar Empire (Sose for short) is what they call a 4X strategy game. The “x” and actually come from the words explore, expand, exploit and Exterminate. This is Sose therefore fully summarized. The game begins with an introduction which outlines three races strugguling for control over the planet.

The most humane, the TEC (Trader Emergency Coalition), with even the alien Vasari Empire and Advent. These breeds will compete in the struggle for world … erm the universe domination. The differences between the varieties are rather disappointing when compared with the more traditional RTS games. It boils down to a few cosmetic differences. The studies, technologies and units look different and are also called light differently, eventually they differ little from each other. The same wine in different pockets so. One seems a missed opportunity, but it is easier for the balancing. Never bother doing it. Each race continues to be a bit distinguished in atmosphere. Remarkably, after the successful intro there is really no story or campaign more develops. For the rest of your gameplay, you play single scenarios, which is a deficiency somewhere.

Time to conquer space!

The scenarios are divided into three different sizes: small, medium and large. Depending on the size of the folder, you get more planets to conquer. The intention is to start with a planet or any other planet also add your dominion. You begin to build a base by a planet to colonize. We can then expand in different ways: they can act as a service to commercial epicenter, a demographic feature or appropriating them for warfare use. Depending on the path you choose, you can include research buildings set up factories and a trading port. Also around your planet you can build things as a shipyard or defense unit. Nearby meteorites may be a source of crystal or metal, which can transport you to your capital planet. Ultimately you need cash for a universe to conquer.

Once the money starts rolling in, you can explore upgrades (such as ships or new technologies), build a fleet and a capital ship construction. The latter is a huge ship that can distribute a lot of damage. Eventually, your planet, you built and the space to explore. You can not just jump to another planet, this is done through “phase lines”. Through this way can quickly fly to another area. This makes sure that you are your enemies using a fixed way to approach and vice versa. This gives an extra nice touch to the fighting. The battles themselves are rather standard. Your units each have their specific purpose (a gun ship is good to respond to planets but again weak against fast battleships) and often have a special attack that a kind of “energy” costs. It comes in the game down to a best possible fleet. Therefor not the biggest but the best. A large fleet can easily be cut to pieces by a few specialized squads.

During the fighting continues the list at any time held and rightly so. Once a few more hours in the game, you start quite a few units and buildings to know. This makes for a rich display. The communcation, control and review system is the best I have got to experience in an RTS. Rarely you get completely lost overview and that is the strength of this title. While you are in Supreme Commander is sometimes the forest for the trees not see you with a few clicks Sose an overview of all your calls technologies, you and your capitals ships.

The gameplay is more difficult to explain, but it belongs to the best of the 4X games (cf. Home World, …). Typically a short game that is already existent. Though in the expansion Entrenchment a “quick start” which you have introduced the basic building already given, the game long. Sometimes planets automatically add you to if you have a high technological value, but eventually you will always have to fight. Everyone always makes for a well-guarded base, so the conflicts are often spicy. Is that the fact that there are pirates who roam around like nothing better than their heavy ships the most successful player to attack. Every fifteen minutes someone is attacked by pirates, then you must at all times armed. Hours on end. Think you’ll get pirates to visit, offer money to put on the head of another. The pirates are indeed those with the largest sum on the head. This often causes great bidding race.

A good defense is sometimes the best attack.

The Trinity version available to me, also includes the latest micro two expansions. Micro because every few major additions were made but there’s not much money was requested. I am not going to discuss in detail, that would lead me too far, but they do a sketch of the new features. The first expansion, will mainly Entrenchement some frustrations from the first part. There were many complaints about the weak defense structures. Also it often happened that I was actually fighting in a distant planetary system, and pirates emerged around my head basis. The damage was considerable before I got my spot back fleets. By extension, these issues of the orbit. You can now bases a lot to expand so they can offer what unchallenged. However, expect too much because of a Starbase upgrade costs tremendous amounts of money. I do not think I ever more than two simultaneously held had. It is an important element of the gameplay become extensions to the base even got its own tab in the technology tree. The defense completely finish you can put minefields since this expansion. If your attackers you Starbase survive, then you do the last remnants of the wipe with some of these dastardly explosives. But a.i. is not stopped, the PC will fully exploit these new opportunities so you often get unexpected lot unchallenged. For dessert you get some interface improvements and graphical effects on top.

Cronyism is wages.

The second extension is simply called Diplomacy, which is the largest addition in this expansion. There is now a much more focussed on relationships. To emphasize this, they introduced a new technology tree and you can now based on your status screens also show respect to your relationship score. the factions. If you immediately fight the cold sweat break out doing, you can opt to share your profits and an “Allied Victory” to pursue. Your friends by choosing well, you can work hard on them to have. You can forge friendships by donating resources or through a new type of unit. Once all-glove, you can pay others to carry out orders. If you think about crystals, your friend (human or NPC) to attack a particular opponent. These missions can continuously issue itself but there will obviously end up in your tank. Once you have a few run, otherwise the friendship can not continue. Give and take, the message is. Provided some investment in the technology tab, you can now send other players pirates. The more money you put into it, the heavier the pirate fleet. The maps are updated quickly so your opponents will meet. It will often occur that may take a different player sees a fat planet colonize. It may be a good time to an already early alliance building. The cards are slightly smaller and the location of the planets is that fuel conflicts. And if it really is not fast enough, you may want certain aspects (such as construction speed, boat speed or research it). Another bright spot in this upgrade, the AI . Rest assured that they are forging alliances just as happy as you calm your base are developing. One more reason to go on time to take action.
